‘Footloose’

I am nimble, independent and fancy-free.
You can’t lord me, but you can travel along.

The young horse is footloose, agile, independent, unbound, and carefree. But above all, it is free and in tune with nature. It can be a challenge to catch a young horse in the pasture.

“I prefer to paint my horses on canvas without any tack, without bridle, saddle, or halter. As a symbol of the freedom they need, to be themselves.”

In reality, many young horses are often misunderstood and stressed by the often abrupt transition from wild horse to riding horse.

“As a veterinarian, a young horse can sometimes be unpredictable or even dangerous, and this is mutual in the eyes of the horse. In my veterinary career I often dealt with dangerous situations for both myself as for the horse. And often this was caused by lack of time, patience or understanding.”

This painting is about freedom and patience. Give your horse the time to be young.
