The series
The idea for this series began with an experiment and the first brushstrokes. This time I hadn't thought out a story beforehand. I wanted plenty of contrast, deep pigments and lots of granulation effects in the paint.
I painted the energy and the background first, and then searched for the horses within it from my intuition. None of these paintings, therefore, is based on a reference.
The loose fragments of the story refer to the granulation effects in the paint and the horses becoming one with nature, dissolving into the background. And then the larger idea behind the series, which frustrates me deeply lately: that we keep drifting further and further away from nature. The system we live in, the throwaway society, our food over-processed, our children raised by someone else, the constant striving for more money, working ever harder, achieving ever more, ever more stress. At the expense of our relationships, our health, our nature.
It hurts a little bit to be honest.
Almost all the paintings of the series sold at my open studio. They could well have stayed with me a little longer.
