Forged in flame, yet wild at heart.

It begins at the head, bowed low,
drawn in a single copper breath.
The washes gather weight and pour
down the neck, into the shoulder,
into the surge of the body.
Where the pigment thins, the linen
shows through, still bare,
still breathing.
Up close
Watercolour behaves like a living metal here. It rusts, it pools, it splits into turquoise where the pigment cools, and burns orange where it does not.
Bronze remembers
what breathes no more.
Born of earth, made to soar
I wanted this one to feel like a sculpture that never cooled. The copper still glowing, the patina still forming, the drawing underneath never quite buried.
Look closely and the pencil lines are still there, turquoise beneath the rust. Nothing is hidden. A horse born of earth, but made to soar.
My story
A wide, low format, one hundred and twenty centimetres across. It carries a long wall the way a mantel carries a sculpture.
