Bronze, original watercolour of a horse in motion, its body cast in copper, rust and patina with turquoise flecks on bare linen canvas, in a black floating frame

Original watercolour · one of one

Bronze

Watercolour on linen canvas · 50 × 120 cm · € 2 900 Sold

Forged in flame, yet wild at heart.
Grace in motion, cast as art.

Bronze, moving across the painting, the horse pouring from lowered head into powerful haunch in streams of copper and ink

It begins at the head, bowed low,
drawn in a single copper breath.

The washes gather weight and pour
down the neck, into the shoulder,
into the surge of the body.

Where the pigment thins, the linen
shows through, still bare,
still breathing.

Up close

Copper, patina
and flame

Watercolour behaves like a living metal here. It rusts, it pools, it splits into turquoise where the pigment cools, and burns orange where it does not.

Detail of Bronze: deep patina blacks split open by a bloom of fiery orange, the linen weave showing through

Detail of Bronze: a field of molten copper scattered with turquoise flecks over the bare weave of the linen

Bronze remembers
what breathes no more.

Born of earth, made to soar

A horse cast
in living metal

I wanted this one to feel like a sculpture that never cooled. The copper still glowing, the patina still forming, the drawing underneath never quite buried.

Look closely and the pencil lines are still there, turquoise beneath the rust. Nothing is hidden. A horse born of earth, but made to soar.

My story

A wide, low format, one hundred and twenty centimetres across. It carries a long wall the way a mantel carries a sculpture.
